Michael Barrett was born and raised in Christchurch and has lived here his entire life. Initially he was never really interested in computers until starting a touch-typing class in high school and the teacher discovered a natural talent. That led to joining the Christchurch College of Computing, an alternative school for Year 13 students, which meant finishing high school with NCEA and a Certificate in IT from CPIT.

From there he studied further at CPIT completing a diploma in Computer Networking and additionally, a certificate in Systems Administration.

He has over 15 years of experience within the IT Support industry, started out building and fixing computers within a local retail store to then becoming a Systems Engineer, supporting all nature of businesses with their IT throughout Canterbury and New Zealand. Recently he spent some time working within an internal IT team which involved merging the IT systems and platforms used by both teams within a joint venture. It gave him great exposure to the internal demands of an IT system.

Being extremely client focused he always puts his clients first to ensure that they have the best solutions and support!

Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his fiancé Lori, their dog Winston and two cats Digby & Gary. He has a 1000 litre marine saltwater aquarium in his living room which keeps him on his toes! He likes to get out and about and you might find him down at some of Canterbury’s favourite fishing spots when weather and time permits!
